The Port Orchard Youth Ministry
exists to promote opportunities for
Spiritual growth, healthy Christian
fellowship and teen out reach to those
who are seeking to know Jesus. Teen
life is complex, demanding great
changes and choices. Simply
navigating through such a period
requires great strength and patience.
So our goal is to guide, lead and
understand our teens whenever life is
too crazy or confusing. Jesus is the
answer to all the questions and a true
friend for all teens.

Ministry Team: Our Youth minister,
Tim Blair, coordinates a group of
adults who are seeking to serve and
guide our teens. Team leaders may be
parents of teens or energetic adults
who love teens and have found a
special connection to their hearts.
Team leaders must be wise but playful,
patient and forgiving, humorous and
focused. They are the arms, legs,
hands and heart of the youth minister.

Worship- The teens are encouraged
to be actively involved in the weekly
worship services provided for the
larger church body. Teens participate
in worship leading on the Praise Team,
reading of scripture and prayer and
technical services. Special times of
worship are planned weekly for the
teens, which allow them an opportunity
to connect with each other and God in
their own style. These times of
“devotion” are typically held weekly
either at the church building or in
members’ homes.

Bible Study- Weekly bible studies are
held to encourage spiritual growth and
knowledge of God’s Word. On Sunday
morning the teens are provided a time
of bible study, which divides the group
between Junior High and the Senior
High. On Wednesday evenings the
teens are encouraged to participate in
various studies, which change
throughout the year from faith studies,
to a purity class, or a family bible study
time.

Area Teen Gatherings- Teens are
encouraged to attend events
throughout the year that build their
faith and provide opportunities to meet
other Christian teens from area
churches. These teen “Youth Rallies,”
occur in Portland (Faith Quest),
Vancouver, B.C. (Got Faith), and
Cashmere, WA (Apple Cider Press)
and at other area churches.

Service- Teens are encouraged to live
their faith by serving the people in our
community. Throughout the year the
teens are provided opportunities to
serve others whether they be members
of our church of just acquaintances.
Learning to serve for the simple
purpose of helping others and the
experience of self-sacrifice is our goal.
In addition to our community service,
the teens experience extensive service
in the spring and early summer as they
raise money for their summer mission
trip.

Summer Bible Camps- During the
summer, several camps are available
for our teens to attend depending on
their age and schedule. The senior
teen camp session or STS (11th and
12th grades) is usually held the last full
week of June. The junior teen camp
session or JTS (8th thru 10th grades)
is held around the 3rd full week of July.
The 6th and 7th grade session is the
last full week of July. Each camp
session offers opportunities to grow
spiritually through bible study, worship
times and personal relationships with
other Christian teens.

Lock-Ins & Parties- Many teens have
nothing to do sometimes and need a
good place to go and hang out. Teen
activities that promote good clean fun
are a good way to introduce a
Christian environment to a person
seeking Jesus. We deliberately plan
fun activities that will attract new kids to
our group. All night “Lock-Ins” are one
example of a major “bring a friend”
event. Other yearly events from
Christmas parties to sports events like
flag football and rec. time at the gym
are fun events planned on a regular
basis.

Summer Mission Trip- Each summer
in August a major trip is planned that
provides the teens with an introduction
to missions. The week long mission
training experience is held in Tuba
City, Arizona on the Navajo
Reservation. The teens join together
with other Christian teens from
Northwest churches to make their
journey to the Reservation and work
with the missionaries Paul and Ann
Ghee. This life changing trip presents
many opportunities for teens to
experience missions training, cross-
cultural exposure, various service
projects, great times of worship and
fellowship.
